I’m honored and grateful for your desire and interest in helping us fulfill the vision of HeroFest®.
The HeroFest® vision is quite simple, yet very ambitious in its scope - we are working to bring together the music industry as one voice to celebrate, support and raise funds on behalf of the most effective and efficiently run organizations that serve our veterans.
Our mission at HeroFest® is to create and produce an annual, nationally broadcast concert series featuring top entertainers to celebrate our veterans and the organizations that serve them, highlight their needs and raise funds to support them.
The IRS and the Urban Institute show over 34 thousand non-profit organizations serving veterans. That makes it an overwhelming task for the average citizen to determine who to trust with their donation dollars.
That is why we structured HeroFest® with an independently run Charitable Giving Advisory Board (CGAB), to be served by representatives of the highest integrity from business, entertainment and the military. Along with determining how HeroFest® will distribute the funds that it raises, the CGAB will also create a Master List of Approved Charities (MLAC) that the public can use as a guide to assure them that their charitable donations will be well used.
Between concerts and throughout the year, HeroFest® will be dedicated to educating the public and raising funds on behalf of specific veterans’ charities. Our vision includes the creation of a series highlighting their accomplishments entitled “HeroFest® – Profiles in Courage” to be distributed across print and broadcast media.
As we go about our lives, it is extremely easy to forget the sacrifices made by our veterans and active armed services personnel that have made the freedoms we enjoy and our way of life possible.
It’s easy to forget because so few have sacrificed so much for so many.
As of December 31, 2009, the Statistical Information Analysis Division of the U.S. Department of Defense lists a total of 1.4 million active military personnel, and according to the U.S. Census bureau, of 21.2 million veterans 3.6 million face each day with service related disabilities.
That means that less than 7% of Americans have “been there” and only 1% of Americans continue to pay the price by living each day with service related disabilities. The rest of us are free to enjoy our way of life - one that their sacrifices have helped make possible.
As a veteran of Vietnam, I thank you in advance for your donations of time and money to help HeroFest fulfill its mission and America's promise to our veterans. As the words “We the People” inspired them to give, sacrifice and pay the ultimate price of their lives for us, may we come together to ensure their gift is not forgotten.
Together, we can make the HeroFest® vision a reality. Because what makes America great, is that we come together to solve our problems. Our heroes deserve nothing less than the best.
I look forward to hearing from you,
Thomas E. Millard
