Short and Sweet:
Our supporters and followers are really important to us, we value you and want to keep them. It makes good business sense, and it is the right thing for us to do to not disclose any information they give us without their consent or as the law defines.
The longer version for those of you that really want to know:
HeroFest.org and all of its partners consider email to be private correspondence between the sender and recipient. Neither HeroFest.org nor any of its partners will monitor, edit or disclose the contents of your private communications, except that HeroFest.org and its partners may do so: (a) as required by law; (b) to comply with legal process; (c) if necessary to enforce the terms of service; (d) to investigate claims that such contents violate the rights of third-parties; and (e) to protect the rights or property of HeroFest.org, its partners or others.
Some or all data and information HeroFest.org collects during a promotion may be shared with that sponsor. You may decide not to participate in the promotion if you don't want your data and information to be shared. We use all of the information we collect about you to customize the features and services we provide to you.
HeroFest.org may also use the information we collect to occasionally (almost never) notify you about important functionality changes to the site, new services, promotions, contests, and special offers we think you'll find valuable.
HeroFest.org may also use email addresses and other personal information to contact visitors who communicate with us. For example, HeroFest.org or its business partners may direct email to users who provide us with their email addresses for specific purposes such as receiving email newsletters or being notified if they have won a contest sponsored or co-sponsored by us. Any email newsletter will always contain instructions on how to discontinue receipt of the newsletter. If you choose to no longer receive such information and opt-out from any future mailings, you can simply follow unsubscribe instructions provided with each email delivered or contact HeroFest.org. In addition, if you choose to correspond with us through email, HeroFest.org may retain the content of your email messages together with your email address and our response. HeroFest.org may request your credit card number in order to provide you with the services that you want. All credit card information collected by HeroFest.org is encrypted using SSL (secure socket layer) encryption techniques and is stored on our secure server network. All credit card transactions are processed by an established financial institution. Access to credit card information at HeroFest.org is restricted to a limited number of authorized, management-only staff in a manner consistent with or exceeding industry standards.
From time to time, you may be offered the opportunity to receive materials or special offers from third parties. If you opt-in to receive information from these third parties, HeroFest.org will (with your permission) share your name and email address and more with them. HeroFest.org may also disclose account information to third parties in special cases when we have reason to believe that disclosing such information is necessary to identify, contact or bring legal action against someone who may be violating HeroFest.org or causing injury to or interference with (either intentionally or unintentionally) the rights or property of HeroFest.org, or its other users, or to anyone else that could be harmed by such activities. HeroFest.org may disclose or provide access account information when we believe in good faith that the law requires it as well as for administrative and other purposes that we deem necessary to maintain, service, and improve our products and services.
4. What other information is collected and how does HeroFest.org use it? HeroFest.org gathers certain usage information like the number and frequency of users to our site and its pages, certain demographic information regarding users, the operating system and Web browser that a user uses and the identity of a user's Internet Service Provider. Such information is only used by HeroFest.org in the aggregate to reflect the population as a whole rather than focused on individuals in order to allow us to determine how much our users use certain portions of the site so that we can improve the site to make it is as appealing as we can make it for as many of our users as possible. We may also disclose some of this aggregate information and user statistics pursuant to confidentiality agreements in order to describe our services to current and prospective clients and sponsors. In addition, like many other websites with paid advertising, we may disclose some of this aggregate information to advertisers to inform them of the number of people who have seen and clicked on their advertisements. Generally, this information is collected through traffic data and may entail the use of numeric codes that identify computers (but not specific users) such as IP addresses and through the use of "cookie".
6. What choices are available to you regarding the collection, use and distribution of the information? When you sign up for our email services, you must first fill out a Contact Form. While you must answer several of the basic questions on the Contact Form, many of the questions on Contact Form are optional and thus you need not answer them in order to receive our services. You also have choices with respect to cookies. By modifying your browser preferences, you have the choice to accept all cookies, to be notified when a cookie is set, or to reject all cookies. If you choose to reject all cookies you may be unable to use certain HeroFest.org services that require contact in order to participate.
7. What else you should know about your online privacy? You should take the appropriate steps to protect you and your children's privacy on the Internet. You should (i) be aware of the risks of voluntarily disclosing personal information online, (ii) educate yourself and your children and (iii) use complex passwords and never disclose your password, or allow your children to disclose their password, to anyone.
Please keep in mind that whenever you voluntarily disclose personal information, including your email address, online - for example on message boards, through email, in chat areas or on websites that do not respect your privacy - that information can be collected and used by others. If you post personal information online that is accessible to the public, you may receive unsolicited email messages known as "spam" from other parties in return. Although HeroFest.org has strict rules prohibiting spam and we do block certain known persons from sending spam to HeroFest.org users, it is generally a good idea to provide personal information, including your email address, only to persons or websites that you trust and only across secure servers (SSL).
You should take steps to keep hackers from breaking your password and accessing your email account by making your password complex by using long and awkward keystroke combinations and changing it regularly. Also, you should never give your password to anyone, including someone claiming to represent HeroFest.org. We only ask for your password via a web page when you access our system. If you ever misplace or forget your password, we will only send reminders after appropriate security questions have been answered.
Please remember that you are solely responsible for maintaining the secrecy of your password and/or any account information. Please be careful and responsible whenever you're online.
